Platonic Luminary Fabrication Guide

Five wooden light frames for Demo Day. Pick a solid, confirm the size, set your stock, read the saw, cut. Fabric math at the bottom.

Two controls. Two different cuts.

For a flat wooden pentagon, turn the saw table to 36 degrees and keep the blade vertical. The 31.717 degree value belongs only to the optional 3D face-to-face bevel.

Per-face panels cut from bounding rectangles, rounded up to the quarter yard. Triangles nest point-up/point-down along the strip. Buy from one bolt so the diffuser glow matches across all five shapes.

Before the first cut

  • Clamp the workpiece; never freehand short offcuts.
  • Use a stop block for repeated lengths, measured long point to long point.
  • Scrap-test every new angle and one full face before batch cutting.
  • Eyes and ears on. Fingers outside the no-go zone.
  • LED or low-voltage lighting only. No candles, no hot bulbs near fabric.
